5 Simple Ways to Make Space for Art in a Busy Schedule
We all go through seasons where creating feels out of reach. Life is full—family, work, errands, that endless to-do list—and the idea of sitting down to paint can feel like a luxury you just don’t have time for.
But what if I told you that getting better at art doesn’t require more time... it just requires a little space?
Not a complete overhaul of your schedule.
Not a full afternoon in the studio.
Just a few intentional minutes to reconnect with what lights you up.
The Myth That Holds Us Back
One of the most common things I hear in our creative community is:
"I want to paint… but I just don’t have the time."
And while it may feel true, here’s the truth I’ve learned for myself—and seen proven in hundreds of other artists:
You don’t need hours of uninterrupted time. You just need to take the first small step—whatever that looks like for you.
When you make a little space to create, even for just 15 minutes, something shifts.
You feel more grounded. More present.
More like yourself.
5 Simple Ways to Make Space for Art
If you’re ready to bring creativity back into your life but don’t know where to start, here are a few simple shifts that can make a big difference:
1. Put it on the calendar
Start with 30 minutes a week. Treat it like any other commitment—and honor it.
2. Keep your supplies visible
A sketchbook, palette, or paintbrush in plain sight is a powerful, quiet invitation.
3. Set a timer
Just 10 minutes. That’s it. The hardest part is starting, and a little momentum goes a long way.
4. Let go of perfect
You don’t need ideal lighting, the right playlist, or a clean house. You just need to begin.
5. Pair it with something comforting
Light a candle. Play your favorite music. Sip a cup of coffee. Make the moment feel special—even if it’s short.
If Not Now, When?
You don’t have to wait until life slows down.
You don’t need to carve out hours or rearrange everything.
You just need to take that first small step and make a little room for creativity in your world.
From my experience, art has a way of making life feel fuller, richer, and more intentional.
And really, that’s what it’s all about—enjoying each day to the fullest and honoring the time we’ve been given.
Because if not now… when?
Cheering you on always,
Brooke
